Software Storage Migration |
|
As operating systems have evolved, an area of great improvement are the multiple options available to a user for system storage. Advanced storage solutions are designed to increase I/O performance, enhance system availability, and improve storage expandability. The problem for users then becomes how to take advantage of the features and how to easily migrate a live system to utilize them.
SBAdmin provides Adaptable System Recovery (ASR), which includes the unique ability to rebuild a system from bare-metal and allow the user to make changes to the system's storage configuration. The SBAdmin System Installation and Maintenance Menus provide an intuitive and easy-to-use interface which is used to migrate your system's storage.
Typical storage migration tasks supported by ASR:
- Migrate from JFS filesystems to JFS2 on an AIX system
- Migrate from partition-based Linux system to Logical Volume Manager (LVM)
- Migrate from UFS filesystems to ZFS on a Solaris system
- Add or remove filesystems to better organize and improve disk operations
- Change filesystem sizes to reclaim disk space
- Add mirroring to improve system availability
- Implement RAID using Solaris Volume Manager or Linux Software RAID
